The Ethnographic Museum, Plovdiv

The Ethnographic Museum is one of the most attractive centers for cultural tourism in Plovdiv. As part of Ancient Plovdiv, it is visited not only as a museum exhibition but also as a place where traditional festivals (traditional folklore and chamber music) are held, various concerts, biennials, reviews, theatrical productions, book promotions, performances and others.


The museum was founded in 1917, and since 1938 it is housed in the Kuyumdzhieva House, a monument of culture of national importance. Built in the distant 1847 by master Hadji Georgi, she is a typical representative of the Plovdiv Revival House. The house is part of the Architectural and Archaeological Reserve "Ancient Plovdiv" and is an impressive building, defined as the peak of Baroque architecture in Bulgaria. Each of the four floors has an area of ??570 square meters, two large lounges, 12 rooms (all with unique wood-carved ceilings) and over 130 windows. The eastern facade of the house has "set foot" on the old fortress wall and is an integral part of the ensemble of Hisar Kapiya.


Regional Ethnographic Museum - Plovdiv is the largest preserving and popularizing of traditional folk culture outside Sofia. The rich exposition presents the material and spiritual culture of the Plovdiv region, the Rhodopes and Srednogorie during the Renaissance. The museum has over 40,000 movable cultural monuments. Among the collections are those of copperware, ceramics, jewels, antique weapons, shepherd carving, stitch and knit lace, costumes, urban decor.


The museum offers additional attractions for tourists as a demonstration of traditional crafts (making of jewelery, stitch lace), as well as services: a salon, an exhibition hall and a yard for cultural events.


Wonderful location, Baroque architecture, and the magnificent courtyard allow visitors to immerse themselves in a different atmosphere in which to experience and experience art, poetry and music in depth. If
